Your baby is an itty bitty human today. This is the smallest size you will ever see them in your lifetime, because before you know it, they’ll be walking and talking and eventually growing up to be a young man or woman. I know it's hard to imagine this now, but we were once this small as well. Booking a newborn photography session can allow you to capture this miracle you and your partner have brought into the world and remember just how tiny and precious your little baby once was.
I find it very gratifying to preserve the first days and weeks of your baby’s life. As a mom with two children I see the passing of the time. You can count on me to take beautiful, professional photos that you’ll cherish for years down the road, because I personally understand the value of these images. I have years of experience photographing newborns in Boston and know just what it takes to achieve the perfect shots.
The newborn phase is short and sweet. Even after the baby's first month they will have changed compared to those first few days. I suggest you schedule your newborn photoshoot anywhere between 5 and 14 days after their birth. If possible, book your session well in advance to your due date so you don’t have to think about it once they make their debut into the world. When necessary I will work with you to reschedule your session to accommodate for any unforeseen circumstances.
There are a few things that are important when preparing for a newborn shoot. Rest assured that we will schedule a phone call with you and go over all the necessary steps!
In general, it’s a good idea to feed your baby prior to the session and keep them awake for at least an hour before I arrive. I may also ask you to send me some photos of what your key rooms look like so I can get an idea of the windows and direction of the sun before the photo session. I may also ask you to tidy up your home so that the photos can be all about your little miracle.
When it comes to clothing for parents, bright neutrals and light clothing are the way to go. Simple outfits made of summer fabrics are appropriate and photograph well for in home newborn sessions. It’s recommended that you keep your house temperature nice and warm, since babies don’t like to be cold, especially when we take some shots with exposed skin.
Most of my newborn photoshoots are done in my client’s homes. This is because I find it important to include what the baby’s first home looked like, the parents in their natural environment, and authentic connections between the newly growing family. Doing the in-home newborn sessions allows me to achieve all of this, as well as keep my clients relaxed in the comfort of their home. Dads will be happier doing something useful when the spotlight is on the baby alone, after all this isn't the shortest photo session!
During the time of my stay with you I will be capturing images to help you preserve the memories of first few days and weeks. Just how tiny baby looked on parent's bed, the facial expressions they make when sleeping, dad gently holding the baby, mom kissing the baby's tiny fingers..
This type of newborn photography will be particularly appealing to those who love making albums and story telling images!
