She thought they were going to a museum

This photo session really blew me away: when literally in the middle of New England winter with snow covering the ground I had to photograph a surprise engagement in Larz Anderson Park.

He told her that they were going to a museum near the park and took her on a walk, that she thought was the way to it. As they were walking across the park, they came to a little bridge and stood there. He got on his knee, took out a ring and asked her to marry him. It was almost dangerous to even be on the slippery bridge at that time, but everything went really well. She happily said yes and after a few moments of catching our breath we proceeded taking more photos just for fun. After the shoot he planned a beautiful evening at a restaurant to celebrate the “yes”!

So, if you ever need a celebration in your life, make it happen yourself, that was my take away. I thought it was amazing to be there with this cute couple and capture the moments that will forever be the first steps on their road to become one family.

Photography breaks a language barrier

I was once again reminded a couple of days ago that photography gives you freedom to communicate beyond words. It was really by chance that I met this Brazilian young woman, who didn’t speak a word of English. She is not a model and during the shoot we didn’t have an assistant or a stylist or a translator. Her Portuguese and the left overs of my Spanish was really all we had in words, but we found other ways to understand each other and managed to produce some really beautiful portraits.

Snowy streets make a perfect backdrop

When the second most important thing you take to a photo shoot is your gloves you know that it’s December in New England :)

I got a call from a brave high school senior, who really wanted to be outside for her photos I tried to talk her into other locations, but she wouldn’t give in.  I was so glad that she didn’t, because the night before her session the first snow of the season covered everything in just enough snow to transform the usual red brick streets of Back Back into a winter wonderland. When we showed up at the location the sun was out and everything was sparkling and all around us was white and blue, it was gorgeous. She did a great job surviving the cold and I was certainly happy to have my warm gloves on (and snow pants :) because at the end we got some really beautiful photos and great memories of that winter morning.

Happy child and her furry friend

Before winter showed up here in New England and we could still easily play outside I had a photo shoot with a little girl and her doggy friend. This was not my first photo shoot with her, but the first time I met her friend Red, a very energetic cocker spaniel. The two of them had a great time running around in the grass, chasing each other, giving each other kisses (well, Red was the main kiss giver). We ended up with lovely photos, that captured the friendship and the spirit of both of them.

I would encourage everyone who owns a dog to consider bringing it to the photo session, especially for family and children photos, because these 4 legged friends just add so much more (even though making sure they don’t escape can be a little challenging sometimes :)

Back Bay is a cool backdrop for high school senior portraits!

From familiar red brick and iron fences of Back Bay to a lovely open river view of Cambridge and MIT, this session was a total blast! We had a nice walk exploring Marlborough Street, which is full of nice little areas and details for photos and then crossed the road to get to Charles river for a completely different light quality. It’s always fun to photograph in the city, but especially when you feel the connection to the person you are photographing and this was certainly the case.

Wishing him a great senior year!

Update: 12/20/2017

Wow, I just heard the good news from Jake that he recently got accepted into a pre-medical program at Boston University. What a nice way to celebrate the upcoming holidays! Congratulations!

Boston Bruins family welcomes a new member!

When about a few months ago I got a typical phone call from a client inquiring about a maternity session I didn’t know I would be photographing a beautiful family of Matt Beleskey (left winger from Boston Bruins) and later on his sweetest newborn baby girl. It was very exciting to finally figure this out after we tried to schedule the photo session several times working around Matt’s practices and games. I had my aha moment :)

I must say that one of the reasons I love my profession so much is having an opportunity to meet and get to know people from different walks of life, like Matt and Victoria in this case. Another important reason is being able to give the people I photograph the memories of their life, because I know from my personal experience how valuable these are. Time passes by so quickly and in a few months and a few years you are not pregnant anymore and your baby is turning into a teenager (like mine) and you can’t even imagine how big your were and how small your baby once was and could actually fit inside of you.

So, it’s my hope that some day the children and the grandchildren of Beleskey family will proudly point and say that these were my parents and my dad was a great hockey player!

P.S. Good luck to Matt in the next season! I have become a Bruins fan :)

Summer evening in the tall grass

Many people ask me about doing their photo sessions in the field with tall white grass, because they see some examples on my website where grass is back lit and looks almost golden around the sunset. I shot these photos a few years ago when I lived in California, where fields like this were in a abundance. Well, after searching around I found a park that has a field with similar type grass and in the right time of the year looks very much similar to those fields on the west coast. Here is a perfect example of how lovely this field looks with a beautiful couple who is expecting their first baby.  I shot these photos in Francis William Bird Park, which has other wonderful features, like old stone bridges, walkways, lots of old trees and a small lake.

Happy Young Couple ready for graduation!

Graduation time is an exciting time, especially if you have someone special to share it with! I really enjoyed photographing this young couple, who are getting ready to graduate from Wellesley college. We decided that the Wellesley campus was a perfect place for their photo session. I can’t say that the weather was very cooperative that day, but these two were so lovely and easy going and I think you can see that in their photos. Congratulations to you both and good luck in the future!

Boudoir Photography

I am so thankful to have boudoir clients like this amazing woman! It really makes my work so much more meaningful..

This client came into the studio for the first time to meet with me about 3 weeks ago. We talked about her boudoir photography session, she casually mentioned that she had lost 110 lbs and she was somewhat conscience of her body. I couldn’t believe her, because she looked so good! This was going to be a session of celebration. Some big achievements. It turned out also that she was a mom of 6 kids and 10 grandchildren and a Patriots Fan. Patriots Fan in my studio right before the super bowl?!  Well, as you all know Patriots just won the super bowl this past weekend on February 5th, 2017 and I am so proud to have met and photographed this wonderful woman.

So, here are some different looks we captured during her session!

Newborn Lifestyle Session

The birth of a baby is a beginning of a new life. The first days and weeks are filled with joy, happiness, excitement that words cannot easily describe. But in just one year the tiny baby starts to walk and even talk and those first days can quickly disappear from our memory. Doing a photo session at this time and especially doing it in your home will always remind you of those times, even if you move and your baby is grown up. You don’t need the backgrounds, fancy accessories, baskets, it’s just you, your spouse and a baby in a real life setting, captured with meaningful photos.
